My Portfolio Career

After trying out a number of more traditional full-time careers, I have realised that I am well suited to the variety and challenge of a portfolio career. I appreciate the flexibility of setting my own working hours and enjoy the diversity of people and tasks that my several jobs introduce me to.

Audio Transcription with Take Note Typing

I have worked for Take Note Typing, an transcription and live note-taking agency, since June 2015 and love putting my fast typing to good use while being introduced to a huge range of topics I'd never encountered before. Within a couple of days of transcribing, though, I realised I needed to get myself a good chair and nix my bad habit of curling up on the sofa with my laptop on my knees! Thanks to the glories of the Internet I bought a second-hand office chair and wheeled it home through the streets of Birmingham. Oddly, that wasn't the first time I had carried a chair across the city.

Because I am currently with Take Note, I am not accepting any private transcription jobs. If you need anything transcribing I can definitely recommend Take Note; they're great to work for and very particular about accuracy and quality of transcriptions.

Garden Assistance

I am an enthusiastic but fairly uninformed garden assistant. Given clear direction about what is a weed and what is a plant, I can thoroughly clear a patch of land and am particularly proud of my successful elimination of six juvenile ash trees and a forest of nettles from the raspberry cane patch at the beautiful and peaceful Launde Abbey. I have also worked on a permaculture smallholding in Cornwall through WWOOF and am presently working in Cambridge assisting a local man with weeding and maintaining his garden. If you live in central or north Cambridge and need some assistance in your garden, get in touch and I might be able to help.

Childcare

I began babysitting at the age of 14, and have looked after dozens of children in subsequent years. I have experience with children of all ages, from newborns right through to early teens, and am currently working as a part-time afternoon nanny for a rising three-year-old girl. If you were to peek through the living room window you would probably see us dancing to Swan Lake or acting out the story of Peter and the Wolf with her puppet theatre and a hearty dose of imagination.

I hold public liability insurance as a nanny and have completed a number of relevant qualifications. At present I am not registered with Ofsted but this may change in future if I take on more nannying work. You can find me on Childcare.co.uk where I regularly update my current availability.

Other roles

I am always interested in hearing about other possible fields I can explore, and if you think I might have the skills to take on a role you have available, get in touch and we can discuss it! I particularly love short-term projects which teach me something different, introduce me to ideas I haven't encountered before or use my experience in a new way.
